I made the arduous 3 minute journey up to the top of the mountain behind my house this evening for a couple of shots.

It seems as though Summer is coming to an end, the light is getting less harsh with every passing day. Hip, hip!

My last four updates have all been Sunset shots, It may be time for a couple more Waterfall shots I think!!

Popped down to Rest Bay yet again this evening with my wife and the nipper.

Fantastic sunset, unfortunately I didn't manage to get the exposure on the foreground rocks right.

Nipped up to the Rhigos this evening to hopefully catch a decent sunset.

The foreground was pretty uninspiring to be honest, so I metered the image off of the sky to get this silhouette effect.

Rest Bay

Popped down to Rest Bay this evening as I noticed the clouds miraculously disappeared.

We ended up being treated to a rather spectacular orange sunset.

Sgwd Yr Eira

The curtain style waterfall of Sgwd Yr Eira, (Welsh for "Fall of Snow"), was formed where the river Hepste leaps over a fifty foot cliff between high banks.
The main attraction is a narrow path that leads behind the waterfall, allowing you to stand underneath the falls akin to the scene from Last of the Mohicans - although I wouldn't advise jumping off it !

I was a little disappointed at the weather conditions, considering I come half way across the world to see the views!

In hindsight I'm really happy with contrast between the shot above and myprevious tunnel view shot.. =)

Also known as Lower White Meadow Falls.

It's a great waterfall, I just wish the left hand side of the valley was more accessible, allowing me to get another waterfall further upstream in the shot.

Sgwd yr Pannwr, known to us non Welsh speaking folk as 'Fall of the Fuller'.

It's quite difficult to get to when you're lugging a tripod around but it's worth it.

Brecon Beacons

The Brecon Beacons consist of the mountains to the south of Brecon.
The highest of which Pen y Fan (886 m), is shown above.

The Brecon Beacons are named after the ancient practice of lighting signal fires (beacons) on mountains to warn of attacks by the English - So that's where they got the idea in Lord of the Rings from!

Rest Bay, Porthcawl.

Rest Bay is a sandy "Blue Flag" beach situated in the west of Porthcawl.

It is a very popular for water sports, especially surfing.
A lifeguard station overlooks the beach which is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months.

Craig y Llyn is a mountain in the Cynon Valley, South Wales.

It is the highest point in the traditional county of Glamorgan and the highest in the South Wales Valleys.

It is named from the cliffs of its steep northern escarpment which overlooks the Llyn Fawr Reservoir.

Tioga Pass

Tioga Pass (el. 9,943 ft. / 3,031 m.) is a mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
State Route 120 runs through it, It is the highest highway pass in California and in the Sierra Nevada.

We used this pass to travel from Yosemite to Owens Valley.

Tunnel View is a viewpoint on State Route 41 located directly east of the Wawona Tunnel as one enters Yosemite Valley from the South.
The view looks east into Yosemite Valley at the southwest face of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Falls.

It's a terrific sight to behold.

Rising nearly 5,000 feet above Yosemite Valley and 8,800 feet above sea level, Half Dome is a Yosemite icon.

To the right of Half Dome there are two waterfalls, Nevada Falls and Vernal Falls.

Rhondda Valleys Waterfall

Located only a mile (if that) from my house, this little waterfall taught me how to control shutter speeds.

I like to visit every now and again, so don't be surprised to see more than one photo of it :)

Broadhaven Beach, Pembrokeshire.

Broad Haven South is a beach located 1 mile south east of the village of Bosherston on the edge of the Stackpole Estate in South Pembrokeshire.
It's one of Pembrokeshire's finest beaches with it's south-facing location, dramatic cliff views backed by sand dunes and expansive National Trust woodland and Lily Ponds which are located behind the beach.

Big Sur is a sparsely populated region of the central Californian coast where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean.
The name "Big Sur" is derived from the original Spanish-language "el sur grande", meaning "The Big South".

The terrain offers stunning views, you have to drive the Big Sur to appreciate it's awesomeness.

Zabriskie Point, Death Valley.

Zabriskie Point is a part of Amargosa Range located in the eastern region of Death Valley. Noted for it's erosional landscape, It is composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago.

The Merced River is most well known for its swift and steep course through the southern part of Yosemite National Park, having carved out the world-famous Yosemite Valley.

It is Located in Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada of California.

It's an amazing sight, I'll definately be going back there again one day !

Grand Canyon West

While I enjoyed the views at Grand Canyon West, I was a little disappointed by how commercialised the place was. Especially after just coming from Yosemite Nation Park a few days previous.
It is accessed via a 120 mile drive from Las Vegas, which includes a 10 mile stretch of dirt road which is currently under development (Massive PITA!).
The main atraction other than the Canyon itself is the Skywalk, which is owned by the Hualapai Indian tribe - I was really unimpressed with the attitude of some of the owners there, it felt like a cattle market with people being herded around. It's quite clear that the motivation is...money.
